Here is an example of a juvenile Red tailed hawk "mantling" prey. When predatory Birds of Prey find a meal, they will often consume that meal on the ground and outstretch their wings to conceal their kill as to not lose it to another predator. Predators are designed to eat fast in order to survive! Although this hawk has no competition for this particular meal, instinct tells her to hide her food so it remains all hers!
