Another wombat treated for mange early this morning. We suspect it’s Stu, a wombat treated once last year before he disappeared. One dose Bravecto is not enough so it’s starting from scratch again and hopefully we can give him two follow up doses. Lucky for him he has most of the fur on his back but his front legs and torso is covered in thick plaques If you want to support us in helping them please do. It costs us an average of $250 per wombat for treatment. You can donate at www.wombatrescue.c

Canberra-based wombat rescuer Yolandi Vermaark of Wombat Rescue is on the frontline of fighting mange in wombats. Here, Australian Geographic follows her on one of her typical weekends, which involves looking for joeys in roadkill and treating a small population of wombats with cydectin that helps get rid of mange. It's a hard story to watch, but Yolandi believes all Australians need to open their eyes to the incredible suffering wombats with mange endure. | Australian Geographic

We named this little sweetie Jasmine after her rescuer Sharon's daughter. She arrived six days ago after being found disoriented 50 metres from the flooded waters of the Murray River. Jasmine still has not left her bed. She is blind but not injured and is in fairly good condition. Jasmine is the largest wombat we have ever had come to us that still has her sucking reflex which means her dear Mumma has been feeding her very recently and way past the normal time frame. There is no doubt in my mind

The northern hairy-nosed wombat (Lasiorhinus krefftii) is the world’s largest burrowing marsupial, but also one of Australia’s rarest mammals due to land-clearing, competition with livestock and rabbits, and threats from dingoes and wild dogs. Thankfully, the Australian Geographic Society is partnering with Australian Wildlife Conservancy to give these animals a second chance after their numbers declined to just 35 individuals. Read about the northern hairy-nosed wombat and donate to help Austra

Your new favourite animal? 😍 Wombats are marsupials, meaning they have a pouch where their young grow and develop. Interestingly, a wombat's pouch faces backwards to protect the joey from dirt as their mother digs. Footage by © BBC Studios NHU #SevenWorldsOnePlanet | BBC Earth

Happy Wombat Day! Inside the nocturnal building within the Australia and the Islands region, you’ll find a little furball with a large nose, small eyes and charming face by the name of Glen. Glen is a southern hairy-nosed wombat, a marsupial species that is native to Australia. Wombats have one of the largest brains of any marsupial, along with a well-developed sense of smell and hearing. These heightened senses help them perceive potential dangers and when threatened, they can flee at speeds of

GROUNDED: The race to save Australia's most powerful eagle This Wedge-tailed Eagle had been stuck in a paddock when we got the call. Something was very wrong. These birds are sacred. They're Australia's largest bird of prey, with a wingspan over 2 metres and eyesight 8 times sharper than ours. They can spot a rabbit from 2 kilometres away and hunt prey as large as young kangaroos. But this one couldn't even get off the ground. As we got closer, the problem became clear – missing primary flight f
