This day in classic rock history, December 9th 1980: John Lennon is shot and killed outside his New York City apartment building, The Dakota. Mark David Chapman, a former mental patient who had earlier that day asked for and received Lennon's autograph, was arrested and convicted for the killing. He's still in prison to this day.
