If you’re struggling to understand how to use your reins to support your horse, here’s the simple sequence I teach all my students: 1️⃣ Fingers — Use your fingers like you're gently squeezing a lemon. This is the first, lightest aid that talks to your horse’s jaw. 2️⃣ Wrist — This helps supple your horse through the poll. 3️⃣ Elbow — Your elbow controls the positioning of the neck. Always go in this order so your aids stay soft, clear, and effective. When you ride this way, your hands stay toget

In this series I want to share some in hand training techniques inspired by the ”horse air walk tutorial.” These are real training techniques that we use in developing dressage horses. So let’s start with how I begin teaching piaffe in hand. This is what we do starting at Day 1! Check back in soon to see Day 2! #dressage #ptdressage #classicaltraining #dressagehorse #horses #dressagetraining #equestrian #horses | PT-Dressage

In-hand work is one of the most powerful (and often overlooked) tools for teaching movements like piaffe, passage, half-pass, and more. 🐎💡 🏇👉 Using groundwork to teach your horse new things makes it so much easier for both of you - for your horse it’s easier for them to learn without you on their back, and for you as the rider, you can break things down into smaller pieces, and you’ll be able to see when your horse gets it and learn to time your aids better. That’s why I’m inviting you to a

Today we focused on keeping my hands higher, honestly that on its own is mind blowing for me! After years of riding with lower hands to shape the horses it’s a hard habit to kick especially on a horse who use to be trained very deep to ‘make him more supple over the back and given’ 🙄 (Don’t!). The feeling is wonderful when I get it but so weird and vunreable. Luckily I had Yasmin cheerleading the change which was wonderful. You can really see the hindlegs are able to come through and things get

🙌 Imagine your hands are horses, and your horse’s mane is a fence line. 👉 Your left hand should stay on the left, and your right hand on the right. 🚫 I often see riders crossing their hands over their horse’s neck and neck reining them to turn or move over instead of riding correctly. This is incorrect.💡Instead, use your leg to move your horse, not your rein! 🎥 Want to dive deeper? I’m posting a full video on my YouTube channel tomorrow where I’ll show you exactly how to ride with correct r

💯👉 Though the sequence of your aids is always leg, seat, and then hands, your rein aids do play a big part in creating connection with your horse. 🐴 When you do need to use your reins to supple your horse or give a half-halt, it’s important that we use a light rein aid at first, 🤫 and not just resort to pulling back on the reins 💪🏻 when we want to give an aid. Want more great tips like this? 🎉 Check out my free Rider Position Webinar; link in the comments! #dressage #horses #theaids | Ame

Why do some riders hold the reins between the thumb and the ring finger?.....👍🖐️🏇 1. Anatomy of the Hand The hand's structure allows for the strongest grip when the reins pass through the fingers in this way. The thumb presses against the rein to secure it, and the little and ring fingers stabilise and control the rein. 2. Control and Precision Holding the reins this way allows for more nuanced communication with the horse. Small movements of the fingers can convey subtle signals to the horse

ATTENTION: 📣📣📣 CALL TO ACTION!!! 📣 PUBLIC ACTION – REPORT CLEARLY DOCUMENTED HORSE ABUSE Olympic showjumper Christian Kukuk was filmed riding a clearly lame horse using bare draw reins (“Schlaufzügel”), causing visible pain, stress and unnatural movement. The FN (German Equestrian Federation) officially acknowledged the behaviour as unacceptable and as misuse of equipment, but issued only a warning. The animal-welfare laws are higher than the FN — and the public can act. This is not a “train
