Did you know there are over 170 languages and dialects spoken in the Philippines? 🇵🇭 That’s one of the things I’m most proud of as a Filipina 🤎 we’re such a beautifully diverse country, not just in culture but also in the way we speak. I’ve been living in Siargao Island for 15 years now and even here, the local language isn’t what people expect. In this part of the Philippines, we speak Siargaonon, which is different from Surigaonon and totally different from the Tagalog I grew up with. 🏝️ A

The Philippines is home to more than two hundred dialects, with three major ones—Tagalog, Bisaya, and Ilocano—widely spoken across the country. Each dialect has its own beloved regional songs, whether original compositions or traditional folk songs passed down through generations. Many of these songs are so old that their origins remain unknown, existing long before our great-great-grandparents. I have a deep love for regional songs, even when I don't fully understand their meaning at first. I l
