Snow chicken? Willow ptarmigans are wonderfully adapted to living in an arctic environment. They have “snowshoe” feet: completely feathered, oversized feet with long claws for gripping. To stay warm at night, they auger into the snow, making their own little igloo, with a breathing hole also serving as a periscope for their heads to check for intruders.
