Lindale Mall, originally Lindale Plaza, started out as an open-air mall in Cedar Rapids. Its original anchor stores were Sears, Killian’s, and Yonkers. The stores announced plans in February 1956 for an open-air style mall. While the plans were opposed by downtown Cedar Rapids merchants, the Chamber of Commerce approved them, and Lindale Plaza opened on September 15th, 1960.
