Jun 30, 2020 · The base itself is in the middle of nowhere, even the town of Mountain Home is a 15-20 minute drive. The town doesnt have much at all, a walmart, grocery store, gamestop, a small handful of fast food restaurants.

Base housing was tight, the city of mountain home has limited options, and prices are soaring. For ref: my 2bed apartment in MH was 800/month when I left in 21. I checked recently and it’s 1575. Boise is approx 50 minutes up the road.

Dec 21, 2021 · The base offers a commuter van service for people who live in boise. Not sure how you sign up for it, but you meet up at a designated spot based on what area you live in and someone drives and drops everyone off at their respective duty center and picks them up at the end of the day (pretty sure its only available for the 0700-1600 duty day).

Jun 7, 2018 · The mountains are far in the distance, despite the base's name. And Boise is only called "The City of Trees" because it's the only place with an appreciable amount of trees in that area. MHAFB itself is just a flat, dusty wasteland.

Aug 5, 2017 · Never been stationed here, but I lived in Boise for 5 years. Mountain Home is thought of as a pretty shitty town. That being said, if you are outdoorsy there are still things to do. Just north of MH is plenty of forest and mountains for hiking/backpacking/hunting. You're also a couple if hours away Sun Valley which has world class skiing.

Dec 27, 2020 · Currently at MH living on base. BBC is by far the worst company to operate on Base housing. It has been said here before, the town of MH and Boise are super low on housing available right now and the influx of Cali people is driving the prices through the roof. Since you have kids MH schools are pretty bad so the town and base school are weak.

Aug 11, 2022 · Mountain Home is a couple hours from Sun Valley which is one of the best ski resorts I've been to, and I've been to many in the US and abroad. Boise is an hour away, and the drive is boring as shit, but it is a nice town with plenty of city stuff. Not huge but has most of the stuff you'd find in a populated area, and feels very safe.

Apr 16, 2019 · Good areas to live: Boise, it's about 45 minutes away, but you can get on the commuter ride and sleep to and from work. Boise has a lot of things to do, shopping, movies, greenery, life. Mountain Home (town) is about 20 minutes away from base and the only exitable thing about it is walmart, which is on the outside of town.
