The Indian government wants its own state-backed apps to be pre-installed on every iPhone and Android phone, but Apple and Google are expected to refuse.

The Indian government had asked Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) to provide the state-backed GOV.in app store available in the companies' app stores, Bloomberg News reported.

Popular caller ID app Truecaller has long left iPhone users at a disadvantage by not offering the caller information in real time — a feature its Android users have enjoyed for a while. Today that changes as the company is rolling out an update that brings real-time caller ID support to its iOS subscribers.

The Truecaller app has long been able to flag some incoming spam and scam phone calls, enabling you to reject them, but Apple privacy rules prevented the iOS version from working as effectively as the Android one.

The Live Caller ID Lookup framework with iOS 18.2 enables apps such as Truecaller to help users combat spam calls, as homomorphic encryption preserves a user’s identity in the process of call identification.
