Google donated $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration fund. Other major tech companies and executives like OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Meta both announced $1 million donations to the inaugural fund late last year.

Like other Silicon Valley behemoths, search and advertising giant has worked to make nice with the president-elect ahead of his second term.

Google joins several other large companies and founders in cutting big checks to Trump’s inauguration fund, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, who last week said he would personally donate $1 million (Apple itself is not expected to make any donations).

The private donations are typically used to help pay for events surrounding the inauguration, such as costs related to the oath of office ceremony itself, along with a parade and glitzy inaugural balls.

President-elect Trump has raised over $170 million for his inauguration, setting a fundraising record with contributions from tech executives and major donors. Sources indicate that the total fundraising could surpass $200 million.
