A surge of mud up to their cars’ window sills trapped the families on Thursday night. No injuries were reported.

A magnitude 3.5 earthquake was reported Monday near San Bernardino at 9:44 a.m., followed by a 3.0 quake four minutes later, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
