The New York Mets are off to a hot start this season, owning a 12-7 record through their first 19 games played. The franchise is in first place in the NL East, and much of the success is thanks to the prolific play from Pete Alonso.

Juan Soto and Pete Alonso homered but the rest of the Mets lineup was held in check by the Twins in their 6-3 loss in Minnesota on Tuesday night.

With Alonso swinging a hot bat and the Mets pitching staff performing well, New York has emerged as one of the early favorites in the National League. If Alonso maintains anything close to this level of performance, the Mets will be a tough team to keep out of October baseball.
