Although PennDOT crews have been treating roadways, the department’s primary goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow.

PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on some roads.

Several Valley schools in the southern and western portions of the Valley have closed Monday as a winter storm moves into the region from the southwest.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has lifted the speed limit and right-lane-only commercial vehicle restrictions that were in place on Interstate 79 and Interstate 90 in Crawford and Erie counties. Due to the winter storm impacting the region, speed limits were reduced earlier today to 45 mph.

Though PennDOT officials say it would be best to stay inside Monday, they have pre-treated roads and highways that might be impacted most during the winter snow storm to come overnight Monday.
