89th Texas Legislature gavels in, House elects new speaker
AUSTIN, Texas (KBTX) - The 89th Texas Legislature gaveled on Tuesday, kicking off a 140-day period of lawmaking in the Lone Star State. After new members were sworn in, the Texas House was tasked with selecting its new speaker. Republican Dustin Burrows of Lubbock ultimately won the speaker’s gavel after two rounds of voting.
