Minnesota’s Senate is back to 67 members after starting the year in a tie. The DFL regained its majority in the state Senate after a special election on Tuesday night.

The race’s outcome determines the balance of power in the Senate, which was tied at 33 apiece for the GOP and DFL, but will now lean in the Democrat’s favor. District 60 encompasses all of northeast and southeast Minneapolis and the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood on the opposite side of the Mississippi River.

MINNEAPOLIS — DFLer Doron Clark won the Senate District 60 race in a landslide Tuesday, giving the party a one-seat majority in the Minnesota State Senate. The special election was called following the death of Democratic Sen. Kari Dziedzic in December. The Minnesota GOP and DFL have been tied since in the Senate, 33-33.
