After a late Rangers breakaway bid was broken up in front of the Canes net, Mikko Rantanen carried the puck the other way and played a give-and-go with Jackson Blake as they entered the offensive zone, then set up Svechnikov alone in front for a tap-in dagger with 31 seconds left in the frame.

Blake has been on the fourth line for much of the season, but he moved up to play alongside Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov at even strength in this contest. The move paid off, as Blake scored for just the second time in 10 games when he put the Hurricanes ahead 2-1 early in the third period.
