As the new Stranger Things TV show debuts, the first reviews for Netflix‘s animated spin-off are finally starting to arrive online. Surprisingly, some critics aren’t too happy with Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 as they felt that it didn’t live up to the original series.
While the show takes a minute to find its footing, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 rediscovers the magic of the franchise and successfully introduces more compelling characters into the mix while telling a thrilling and ultimately satisfying story, and I would love to return to this point in time for more adventures down the line.
Stranger Things' animated spinoff 'Tales From '85' is a depressing, cynical attempt to preserve the Netflix hit in pixels.
Opening Shot: “January 10, 1985. Hawkins, Indiana.” In a wintery scene, a person in a yellow hazmat suit chases something from the Upside Down with a flashlight and a torch. The person thinks he’s obliterated what looks like a tiny demogorgon with the torch, but the ashes settle in the snow and reconstitute themselves as something else.
Janeane Garofalo is also among the voice cast of the slightly more kid-friendly series, which follows the gang battling a new breed of monster in the brief period between seasons two and three.
Familiar faces and new adventures feature in the new Netflix animated series "Stranger Things: Tales from '85," out this week.
