'India-US trade deal 99 pc finalised': US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor makes big announcement
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said officials from both sides are actively engaged in discussions and are committed to concluding the agreement.
India is currently holding extensive negotiations for a trade deal with the United States. An American delegation is currently in New Delhi to iron out the “commas and full stops” and the Section 301 probe remains in focus.
The USTR released the outcome of 60 investigations conducted under Section 301, identifying India among 54 economies that, according to its assessment, do not have adequate measures in place to prohibit or effectively prevent the import of goods allegedly produced using forced labour.
India is expected to seek safeguards against proposed Section 301 duties as former diplomats warn that Washington’s tariff plans could become a key pressure point in negotiations over an interim India-US trade agreement.
