The next phase of updated California Fire Hazard Severity Zones, which assess the likelihood of wildfire behavior in local responsibility areas, was released Monday morning by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and Cal Fire.

Cal Fire added over 1.2 million acres in Central California to its fire hazard severity zones. New maps for Southern California come out March 24.

Cal Fire's new hazard zone maps show information on topography, fire weather, flame length, past fire history, vegetation type and the overall likelihood of a wildfire igniting in the area.
