A gunman, armed with a handgun and carrying zip ties, went inside UPMC's ICU, and took staffers hostage before he was ultimately killed by police in a shootout, the York County DA said.

A "threat" has been neutralized following an active shooter situation at a hospital in Central Pennsylvania Saturday morning. An active shooter was reported at UPMC Memorial Hospital on Innovation Drive and Roosevelt Avenue in York County, Pittsburgh Action News 4's sister station WGAL reports.

A 49-year-old gunman was shot and killed by police after they said he held multiple UPMC staff members hostage and shot multiple people.
