A major winter blast of snow, ice, high winds and plunging temperatures are stirring up dangerous conditions across the U.S. central and southern states all the way to the East Coast

Millions of Americans from the Plains to the East Coast faced the threat of blizzards, heavy snow, treacherous ice and freezing rain through Monday, the National Weather Service said on Saturday. Governors in Kentucky and Virginia declared states of emergency ahead of the winter storm.

A winter storm brought snow, ice and freezing temperatures to a broad swath of the U.S. on Sunday, with some 60 million people across more than a dozen states from Kansas to New Jersey under winter weather warnings and advisories.

The National Weather Service issued winter storm warnings from Kansas and Missouri — where blizzard conditions are expected — to New Jersey.

The NWS Blacksburg VA issued an updated winter storm warning at 1:26 p.m. on Sunday. The warning is for Ashe, Alleghany and Watauga counties.

On Sunday at 9:11 p.m. an updated winter storm warning was issued by the NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC. Significant icing. Additional ice accumulations around one quarter of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph anticipated for Avery and Caldwell Mountains counties until 1 p.m. Monday.

On Sunday at 9:16 a.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated winter storm warning valid from Monday 1 a.m. until Tuesday 1 a.m. for Gloucester, Camden, Atlantic and Burlington counties.
