The White House is now negotiating trade deals with dozens of countries after President Donald Trump paused the worst of his sweeping tariffs for 90 days, with foreign countries suggesting the pause will give them breathing room as they seek to reach deals with the Trump administration.

The tariffs imposed on China by President Trump in his second term add up to 145%, the White House said on Thursday—not 125%, as it previously indicated. The 125% tariff that President Trump announced on Wednesday afternoon referred only to reciprocal tariff levels,

"This is not a permanent sort of exemption," Commrece Secretary Howard Lutnick said of Trump's tariff carve-outs for tech products.

President Donald Trump is exempting smartphones, some computers and more electronics from his global reciprocal tariffs after a tumultuous week in the markets due to the president’s global trade war.

Smartphones, laptop computers, memory chips and other electronics will be exempt from President Trump’s so-called reciprocal tariffs, another step back that could ease some consumer concerns about an immediate jump in costs for tech products imported from China.
