Thundersnow – a thunderstorm that produces snow instead of rain – is sometimes reported during winter storms in the U.S.

For Zohran Mamdani, nearly a month into the job as mayor of New York City, this weekend’s snowstorm is a challenge he’s been anticipating for a while.

The city got about nine inches of snow and at least one person died from exposure to the cold as Mayor Zohran Mamdani faced his first big test in nuts-and-bolts governing.

Road crews have been active in Cranberry Township since 2 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The north of Connecticut likely will see snow accumulation near the high end of that range, while southern portions near the shoreline will be toward the lower end, with the possibility of sleet mixing in with snow.

The snowstorm was over by Monday morning, but forecasters say the region faces days of low temperatures near zero.

The most significant winter storm in years will sweep through Maryland this weekend. The heaviest snowfall is expected on Sunday.
