The first game of the series certainly did not go well for the Tigers. Things seemed to be promising after Jamai Jones hit a home run in the opening frame on Thursday night. However, that was the only time the home side had the lead. The Blue Jays took over in the sixth inning, using a five-run frame to turn the tide in their favor.

The last time the Blue Jays were atop MLB this late in the season was 1992, according to Sportsnet. The 1992 season was the first of consecutive World Series championships for Toronto, so this is quite the good omen.

With that victory, the Blue Jays now have the best record in baseball at 62-42. The last time that they had the best record in the league this late in the season was in 1992, when they went on to beat the Atlanta Braves in the World Series, according to Sportsnet.
