Amid the outbreak of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in China, the Union Health Ministry on Friday said there was nothing to be alarmed about. The Ministry, however, appealed to the people to take precautions against all respiratory infections.

The Union Health Ministry’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is closely monitoring cases of respiratory and seasonal influenza in India amid reports of a potential human metapneumovirus (HMPV) outbreak in China.

In its statement, the Union Health Ministry noted that the situation in China is not unusual in view of the ongoing flu season. The reports also suggest that the cause of the present surge is Influenza virus,
