SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Hays County Health Department is alerting residents about a potential exposure to measles. A Gaines County resident who tested positive for measles by the Texas Department of State Health Services visited San Marcos from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, HCHD said in a news release Sunday.

Confirmed measles cases in Texas have reached at least 90, making this the worst measles outbreak in 30 years. Experts warn the number of Texas cases is likely much higher.

Officials in Central Texas are warning the public about a possible spread of measles as they say a person who visited the area had tested positive for the disease. The Hays County Health Department claimed Sunday that the patient is an individual who was in San Marcos—about 30 miles southwest of Austin—and spent time at a local college and restaurant between 3 p.

The Hays County Health Department alerted residents about possible exposure to a person who tested positive for measles. Measles is a highly contagious airborne disease spread by contact with an infected person through coughing and sneezing.

People who were at Texas State University from approximately 3 to 7 p.m. and Twin Peaks Restaurant from 6 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 14, 2025 may be at risk of developing measles due to exposure.
