Daniel Cameron is no stranger to Kentucky politics and is now seeking a larger stage in Washington, D.C. Just minutes after Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell announced he would not run for reelection, Cameron shared he plans to run for the open seat.

Prospective senators are wasting no time following Sen. Mitch McConnell's announcement that he will not seek reelection.

On X, Cameron said “it's time for a new generation of leadership” in Kentucky shortly after Mitch McConnell announced retirement.

Cameron made the announcement just minutes after longtime Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-KY, said he would not seek an eighth term to the U.S. Senate.

Prior to becoming Kentucky’s first Black attorney general, Cameron served as legal counsel to McConnell, the state’s longest serving senator, for two years.
