A former mining community, company town, and seasonal hotel, it is now under careful restoration and preservation. Ryan is situated at an elevation of 3,045 feet in the Amargosa Range, and is 8 miles northeast of Dante's View and 15 miles southeast of Furnace Creek. The Ryan Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2025.
