The Penitentiary is wheel chair accessible in some parts. The entire area is connected with pavement. However, there is a step to view inside one of the cells. There is also a Museum. If you take a look at the website "Old Idaho Penitentiary" then click on the link for the 360* views, you will see all the walkways, and the 2 places that have steps. I would definitely go. I have taken our wheelchair there and did not miss anything that I was interested in. Great old history and sites.

Angie, I agree with Jane. You have the option of both self-guided and guided tour options. We did the self-guided, and it took us a solid 90 minutes. The guided tour is around two hours. A guided tour had begun just as we started our self-guided tour, and was still going as we left. We overheard some of the guided tour, and there are many interesting stories related that we wouldn't have gotten from our self-guided tour. Either way, if you have some time to kill in Boise, the Penitentiary is a worth while stop.
